Hello, I have a problem with my 99 csvt tranny, at first my 3rd gear grinds and now my tires start to fell loose, when you try to rotate it. So I found someone who is offering 2002 transmission with 50K on it for 450. Is it a good deal consider transmission should be in good shape? Also he said that 02 tranny have some modification to it, so it kind of a step from 99?

Sounds good as long as the trans is in good shape. You'll need to change shift towers since your shift cables are most likely different.

Make sure it is a Cougar V6 transmission, not a Cougar 4 cylinder or a Focus.

If it is a Cougar V6 transmission, it should fit fine. I think you can use either shift tower as the cables and ends are the same. The change to the cables came between the 98 and 99.

I also remember that you will need a new cable for some sensor that is in a different position, but that it is available from Ford.

It will be a somewhat improved trans, as the big change came in early 00 production, and included a roller bearing shift fork for the 1-2 gears.

For that price, if it is the right one, I would grab it.
