Im new with the ford contour i have a 99 se with the 2.5, 5 speed i am looking at any upgrades to do to the car i am into the audio part so i am set there. I did here a rumor that when you do a trans flush that you put 10w30 motor oil in.... any truth?

NOOoooo! you put Ford Honey in it. It ain't cheap and only available from a stealership, but it is the best thing for our MTX tranny's.

Regards,
AF

I read a TSB when I got my Torsen T2 that is said Ford no longer suggests adding friction mod to the transmission..

its really not needed. I talked to a couple of guys at the dealership about it, they said its just a precautionary measure and Ford suggests their trans fluid is more then enough protection. Royal purple is an excellent substitute for the Ford Honey, but even Terry Haines suggests the Ford stuff.

i think he is saying flushing out the system with oil and then refilling it with whatever

That ain't the way I read it but that is the proceedure. As long as the whatever is Ford Honey...
Flush the tranny.
Fill it up with the ATF & drive 100-200 mls.
Drain and fill with Ford Honey (straight up)
Then drive and see the improvement.

Two qts of 15w-40 diesel dino oil and 24 ozs of 10W-30 oil, total of 88 ozs. for my 96 model, to flush since i put it back together with the revised 1-2 shift fork. To me it is not worth the extra $$ for a synthetic oil for just a few hundred miles.
