Tps help

I recently posted a problem with my car randomly surging and the pats light coming on during that time. I checked the wiring from the tps and everything looked good. So I replaced my throttle position sensor hoping that would be the problem. I drove forgetting to pull the fuse to reset the ecu, and got a check engine light of course. The codes I pulled weren't what I was expecting. I got a p0122 (unknown), a p1000 (Inc test, no biggie), a p1120 tps out of range (expected this) and a p1121 (tps inconsistent with maf) and I wasn't expecting that. Now should I have expected to see all those codes? My install was as simple as unplug, unscrew, reinstall. The tps is the correct one for the car unless autozones computer lies. Any help is appreciated

The bigger question is: did the TPS replacement stop your random/intermittent cutting out? I know it was probably me that recommended to search your TPS for a problem. The surging has to do with a VREF signal, and the TPS is ONE of the things that utilizes the VREF.

Have you since reset the PCM, after reading the codes?

I wouldn't have expected the inconsistent/MAF code, but I can't tell you that you shouldn't get it, either.. I simply don't know that one..

Yea, thats the code that worries me. I have driven for about a half hour since replacing the tps, and I haven't had the surging problem yet. Then again, it was usually random, happening 1,5, 10, or 20 minutes after driving before it first started. Once it started it would happen from every minute to 10 minutes later randomly. I got the CEL's after that drive and havent drievn it since, becaus eI wanted to pull the codes and make sure that there weren't any other codes that showed up resulting from something else. Today I cleared the codes, and pulled the fuse (i think it was fuse #11?). Anyways, I wanted to see if these codes I pulled are normal, or could be normal, or if I had to adjust something on the sensor before I put it in, all before I took it for another drive. Any clue as to what that first code is?

Looks like the first code is a low input code for the tps. I'll have to run a check and see what kind of voltage im getting. Here we go with a wiring issue again...

I told the parts guy exactly what I wanted, (you know the AZ routine, 2000, Ford, Contour, 2.5L HO (8% of tours)). The one he gave me was the one the computer said it was. Thats about all I can say about it. It does idle fine, I get throttle hang when driving though.

Are you sure you got the correct part? And that it was correctly installed?

Your kidding me...

It looks like I'll check out my tps tomorrow and see if it's broken now. I did not rotate it in...didn't know I had to. I'll check it out and see what I got and install it per the how-to and see if anything new shows up. Hopefully this will solve all my problems, and hopefully this is where my original problem started. I appreciate your time Ray and Tony. I'll post up tomorrow what happens. Thank you.

So I Pulled the new TPS and compared it to my old one, and they are not the same. The old one spun clockwise, and the new one spun counter-clockwise. After reading the how-to, I cam eto the conclusion it was wrong. Unfortunatly Autozone, Checkers, and Napa all have the incorrect part number that have the counter-clockwise spin to it. I tried to call up Bill J. to check and see what he has before I order it to find out it's the wrong part, but he either wasn't it or couldn't answer the phone.

You could always try calling Steve at Tousley Ford. He's another option, you know.

Don't blame AZ totally, those parts books (ALL of them) have numerous errors in them. Many times when a part supercedes another in the middle of the year, the book does not show more than one, you're stuck with that very often WRONG choice. I'm driving on like my third year with a less than satisfactory TPS (early '98 zetec 4) because I gave up looking for the rare one in my car, they kept giving me wrong part.
