I have a friend that is going to be traveling for the next 6 months or so and wanted to know if it would be safe to tow her contour svt behind her RV. I was thinking it would be okay if she had a full dolly but those are pretty pricey. Can it be towed like all the PT cruisers do? I.E. all four wheels on the ground with a hitch. Or is this just not the right car to be dealing with.

I would use a dolly having only the rear wheels on the ground:

1. that way the related drive components wont be spinning all the time
2. I am certain mileage will be added unnecessarily if all 4 tires on ground

make sure the dolly doesn't have the front higher up then necessary. If this is not followed the rear end WILL get damaged, especially the exhaust tips and you have a GOOD chance of actually ripping the rear bumper off if you are not VERY careful.

IF the car has a manual transmission then you "could" tow it without a dolly. If it has an auto trans then you must use a dolly!
When ever you see a car that is "flat towed" behind an RV that car and/or suv will have a manual trans or it's a RWD vehicle and the drive shaft is removed if it's an auto.

I used to tow my race car by flat towing it with street tires in place of the "race" tires. It worked fine until i broke my race car and couldn't tow it home and had to leave it at the track until i could rent a tow dolly to bring it home a few days later. I later bought a trailer!
