time for paint ...

as I said I have thought about painting it but am unsure, I think that it will look good with the medium steel blue metallic ... but if I paint the grill then I have to pain the rear crome strip and where does that leave the pre98 come antenna base  I hated the stock black one ...

I think if you paint the chrome it will dull your blue down...the chrome will set off the metallic in your paint (especially because it's medium blue), making it "pop" as they say.

well my thought was to get one of those ebay grills as my current one has alittle acid rain damage ... paint the old one and have the new one to switch back and forth ...

body is in paint ...

body is in paint ...

the body of the car is in paint, couldn't get into the paint booth to look at it as it was in the "bake" cycle. I will go get some pics tomorrow ... and it looks like I will get the car back next tuesday or weds ... they have 4 different collision repaint to paint tomorrow which was suppose to be done today ... got screwed with the paint coming in late for me car ... so the bumpers and all shoud be painted friday morning ... then the car needs to be compounded and buffed before I get it back ... more to come ...

ahh crap!
that sucks that it got pushed back a whole week like that.
I mean I guess it's good it's getting done right, but damn I wanted to see it!

your telling me  ... who knows maybe it will get done, actually I bet the paint will be done but who knows if there will be time to get it together nor compound and buff, thats the way it goes the collision work has to be done first ... maybe we can go peek in the window if I don't have it hack, it 2 minutes away ...

you might want to think about clear-bra film and do the entire front end of your car.

sooo much easier to clean and might be worth while if you are getting fresh paint.

you'll also want to do the painted parts on the wheel wells. i know that mine, even with a 1 year old paint job are completely stripped of paint.

good call ... off to google ...

clear bra is nice however it has its annoyance

I detail expensive cars (not to sound cocky) and most these cars have the clear bra, if not maintained, the clear bra starts to roll in the edges and areas that took a beating really show on the bra, you will see depressed line and etc..let me see if I can fing the SLK that I did, that clear bra was BAD

here:

notice where the clea bra meets..lol, yea thats what will happen if you dont take care of the bra..its all fuzzy, actually it looks good in the pic but seriously in person, it was trashed

anywho Brian, in your case, I would ONLY clear bra the mirko and the flat spots for the bumper, your lucky to have a color that will not show damage or scrapes as suppose to a more disticntive color like black..

This is what I was talking about, areas you should clear bra IMO..this is what I will do when i get my stuff re-painted again next spring..

if you want you can do the side view mirrors but thats over kill imo..I mean you dont drive ur car EVERYDAY..ya know..but yea. trust me on the mirko though, the front tips are gonna take a horrible horrible beating..i know it from experience, if you look at mine now, its 70% all touch up paint :blackeye:

well looking around last night I found that many places have the hood and fender kits and headlight kits. it seems there is a SE bumper kit, not sure how it would work on the SVT but it covered the flat area of the front bumper and came down to the fog lamps and wrapped around the bumper slightly

as for taking care of it, of course I would ... just need to shop around in the spring ...

you might also want to consider doing the portion of the side skirts facing your front wheels. They get sandblasted pretty bad.

yup. my car is really nasty in that area.

and that all that info is opinion Goonz bout clearbra/3m film. in my opinion i dont think i will even own a car that is NOT covered in 3m film. the directions say ONCE a month take a damp cloth and wipe down the grime on clear bra parts.

clear bra can be costom made and fit in any spot. around key holes, around gas flap, rocker pannel's.... its magic. they also have been tested (some brands) to hold up to 20 lbs of force or so (i.e. a big rock can be directly thrown at area and will bouce off without a scratch).

just what i think. its simply brilliant and really cheap to salvage a car's worst areas of the paint. i mean WHO is going to baby a car and drive it once a week or so when you know you want to drive it everyday and not worry bout stupid things like chips/road debrit ever again.

well yea, i mean if you keep up with it, you wont have a problem obviously. I was saying outa the SLK's sake, as you saw that car hadn't been waxed ever since it was bought, somthing like this was obviously expected..
