How does the VCT cam gear work? I want to be able to set the static timing on a 98+ Zetec. Do I need some funky locking tool if I loosen/tighten it to the Camshaft?
I'm asking because I'm thinking of buying a broken Contour. It sounds like one of the timing belt idlers went bad. The seller tried to replace it and the timing belt but it sounds like he got in over his head. It is now sitting in his driveway in pieces. I think I may be able to get it for cheap if I can fix it and drive it home.
BTW, I already have all of the tools for setting the timing on a Pre-98 Zetec. Camshaft locking tool, TDC locating pin, piston stop, and a degree wheel.
Thanks,
BP
