I am doing my driver side axle, hub, and LCA. When installing the tie rod end back into the knuckle the stud is spinning as I try to tighten the nut. Does this mean the tie rod end is bad? If not, what is the proper way to secure the threaded rod so I can tighten the nut? Do I just put pressure on it by prying against the knuckle?

Never mind....I realized I've done this before with a C-Clamp....my brain must be fried after working all day on it.

Mods you can erase this whole thread if you want...or not...I dont care either way.

its just a ball and socket joint. the ball/stud spinning in the socket isnt an issue unless the boot is stuck to both and tears. then you can get dirt and debris in it and wear it out but otherwise its not an issue.

striker2 thanks for the explanation, you confirmed what I was thinking... The boot's OK. I just held the stud from spinning to get the nut on.

I also noticed when I put mine on today that they need to be compressed into the knuckle so the stud won't spin.

Yes, sometimes just a slight tap with a hammer on the joint will seat it firm enough in the taper to allow tightening.

stock tie-rod ends have a hex in the bottom so that it can be held in place while the nut is being tightened or removed. its just like the stock struts.
