Whats everyones thoughts on the throttle hang fix? I bought my 00 about a year and a half ago, and only considered doing it for the moosing. The throttle hang didn't bother me at all. When I bought my 98, it had the throttle hang fix done to it. I drove it for 15k miles with it, and finally decided to take it out. On really cold mornings the car would stall, and I didn't like the speed at which the rpm's drop between shifts. I feel like I can shift it quicker and smoother without the throttle hang fix done to it. Are there more people out there that like the throttle hang or am I the only one?

I like it and haven't really noticed any difference besides no retarded moosing every morning. My car has never stalled on a cold winter startup either.

I had the same issues with my car when I did the fix, but it was because the hole was drilled too small. Went from 3/16 to 7/32 and it worked out perfectly. RPM's stopped dropping so fast and no more stalling on cold starts.

my problem with the girlfriends svt is primarily moosing, so when I did it to get rid of moosing I gained alot of throttle hang. I think I just need to go larger on the hole.

My SVT has never been a problem regarding throttle hang or moosing.

My car had throttle hang badly when I first got it, but I applied go karting logic which is things get a bit gunked up if you don't drive hard enough and over time its gone away. Have had a little moosing this year, so maybe I need to clean the UIM/LIM again. To answer the question, I don't mind having the revs die off slowly, and for the occasional time it does hang up I don't think its worth messing with.

I think that is the problem, right there. If those are the problems cropping up, make the hole bigger and you should be fine. Reducing TH makes the car so much more fun to drive. Things just 'sync' so much better and the car becomes a part of you.

When I first got my svt it was very difficult to drive with the throttle hang. the rpms would stay pretty much where you shifted at when engaging the next gear. I was really annoying. I have never stalled with the throttle hang fix installed.

I was at the UConn car show revving my engine for brapple and I started moosing. It was kind of funny and kind of embarrassing at the same time.

TH fix is a must. Daily drive, TH is ok to deal with but when you want to shift quick it sucks. Of course drilling the hole to the right size is key.

My first TH fix made an almost new IAC valve pop a leak which made the car not start for some reason but started after push starting and then had a slight miss because of the leak. Slapped an used IAC valve on and drilled the hole a little bigger and it was working fine (got some other 'problems' which have now brought back the TH but that's another story).

Sometimes the Moose can be diminished by cleaning the IAC. That's where the noise comes from. Add some carbon to it and it seems to bet worse.

I have the TH fix. I still get an ocassional Moose visit. When I do I clean the IAC and it diminishes.

I put the drilled out pipe plug in and it works great. I have a manual and have no idle problems even with the air on. Maybe you drilled the whole the wrong size?

Ditto, i drilled it once, popped it in, and whalla'... musta gotten lucky to get it right the first time. car doesn't hang out in the High revs forever now

FWIW there's no universally-correct hole size for the plug. Each individual car is different. Personally, I tried a couple of sizes until I found one that allows some lag when cold, but then greatly reduces/eliminates the lag when at normal temp. The lag when cold helps the cat to reach operating temp quicker, as was intended by the engineers.

I own a red 1998 SVT with 102,000 miles on it. I call if the Refugee From A Wrecking Yard. First owne took godd care of it the second and possibly third owner did harm.

How does one clean the IAC?

Is moosing the sound that is made after putting the car in gear let the cluthc out and about 10 seconds later you get this whoo sound that lasts for maybe 5 seconds?

Thank you for your reply.

You should also keep in mind when you have bad throttle hang you tend load the synchronizers in the transmission up more (wear them out faster) as they are fighting with the engine to help mesh the shift collar in. Also the problem with the engine stalling after a cold start is because the hole is drilled to small. I can start mine in -30F weather fine and it'll keep running while also reducing the throttle hang a lot.

Unbolt it from the UIM. Run B-12 or other carb cleaner thru it. Allow to dry. Before installing spray a quick spurt of liquid wrench or other into the IAC. If you look inot the IAC you will see a worm type gear that moves. You want this lightly lubed prior to install with a new gasket.

I applied the fix to mine using a 1/2" CPVC pipe cap. I had a box of them laying around and they are much easier to drill than copper. I don't recall what size hole I drilled, but I nailed it on the first try. It has run perfectly ever since, winter and summer.
