Hey guys,
I notice with my 3+ (about 5k on it now) if you dont rev match correct or shift to slow the clutch will make a almost grinding noise. I know for a fact its the clutch and want to know if you others have this issue too? Is it because its a metallic clutch that it does this?

I would describe it as more of a whining/moaning noise. I always tell people the clutch doesn't like to slip :laugh:

The worst is when I'm trying to back it up my driveway slowly because I have to ride the clutch. Makes all sorts of noise and shudders a little bit (depending how well I'm feathering it).

I had this noise when I first got it, but now when your driving shifting gears and dont get it at the right RPM it makes a quick grinding noise til the RPM's catch up.
 
It's not a metallic gear-grind sound. Its more of moan and it never happens outside of 1st and R for me.

I believe I started a thread about it a while back and got some good responses. I'll see if I can find it.
 
never heard any of that with mine..... definently shudders the car though, i get like a high pitch whistling noise every once in awhile when starting though
edit: maybe thats teh grinding noise although i never really thought it sounded like grinding
 
Mine sounds like brads on there because it doesnt make it when starting off, just when the car is moving like this...
I am in 3rd wanting to go into 4th (at 4000RPM), I clutch, shift into forth (RPMs now at 1500 , slow shifter girlfriend), release the clutch and GRRRR RPMS jump back up to 2500.
 
My car moans when I shift is slow... my like it fast and rough because when I shift like that it doesn't make any noise... the tires do :laugh: Noticable noise when cold with 3+, 8lb Fidanza and Torsen.

I always rev match and use Ford Honey - I've got 140K on an original transmission and non of the gears grind; shifts decently smooth.

That's when my car makes the moaning noise I was previously describing... Basically any time the clutch has to change speed substantially it makes noise. It does get better when it warms up though.
 
I wouldnt really know about the warming up thing because I dont drive the car enough to heat the clutch up, maybe 10-20 miles at a time but it does not do it for me, just people who are not used to it. Has anyone noticed their clutch not working right because of this? I want to make sure it does not have a bad effect on the clutch from this if my girlfriend is going to be driving my car to SZ...that is the determing factor of it coming or not.
 
well seeing as I am running near 300 hp to the wheel ... the clutch still grabs hard and doesn't slip at all as far as I can tell. its strong enough that if I punch it taking a corner slow the wheels just break free ....

I have about 6k miles on mine. broke it in n/a for close to 1k miles.
 
Im not really worried about it slipping, just worried that the "grinding" is a metal on metal part that should not rub.
 
well just pointing out the in my case teh sound has caused any problems with how the clutch works.

I only get the sound when its hot and I am trying to engage the clutch easy. the thing is really almost on/off but of course it has alittle more give then that.

If it were my car and my girlfriend I wouldn't worry about it. The majority of that drive is highway and I would think any clutch will be more than capable of handling a bit of slippage, especially at low load and RPM.
