Third Gear Grinding when I shift

When I shift into third gear it fights me.. and grinds. adn then its fine.. but everytime. Whats the fix?

I may have had another body in my car in compromising postions .. and maybe the gear shift got kicked??

The SVT Contours are known for eating 3rd-gear synchronizers. There isn't much to be done about it short of a new transmission, or at least a good rebuild with new synchros.

Sometimes you can flush and fill with a good synthetic fluid and it will help a little. But not really.

I'm currently in the middle of a repair. I had to send my transmission to Haines Motorsports, as my local transmission shops told me that they can no longer get any parts to fix these transmissions. Best if you can find a good used transmission from 01 or later Cougar, seems they don't have 3rd gear failures like our transmissions due to factory improvements.

ok I'm aware of THAT grinding.. and I have that when I drive.. but as I push the shifter into third gear it fights me for a millisecond and then grabs and I'm good. Different from the 3rd gear grind that I'm aware of..
