Thinking about 3L, wondering about AWD

As most of you probably know, the Jag x-type is based on the contour platform and comes standard with all wheel drive. After having a blast ripping around in my dad's x-type the few times he let me borrow it, I got the idea of swapping the drivetrain out of a wrecked Jag into my '98 CSVT.

I'm posting this in the 3L forum because ideally I would like to mate the Jag AWD system to a 3L duratec and stuff the whole mess into my 'tour. Plus I'm hoping that the people browsing this forum are the most knowledgeable of the CEG'ers.

I haven't been able to find anything previously posted regarding this type of mod; I don't even know if it's possible, and I was wondering if anybody has considered doing this, done it, or found some reason as to why it's not possible. Please provide any info you think would be useful.

The only replies that I will not treat with respect are those telling me it's a bad or dumb idea without giving concrete reasons (expense/labor are not concrete reasons).

Thanks for your help.

Possible, yes. However it would require a ton of fab work. Look over on fordcontour.org. iirc there was some substantial discussion about it not too long ago on there, even from one of the platform founders. Also, it has actually been discussed on here many times. Furthermore, I am pretty sure that at one time someone claimed there was one converted up north somewhere.

I do still have low mileage 2002 Jag AWD parts FS (5-speed transmission, rear differential, all 4 axles, and front subframe) . Hit me up over PM if interested.

So, did he get the parts? What did you have them for? I would love to try a project like that but my wife would be a little upset. I have too many projects now and take way too long on them.

you might want to search. you'll find this topic comes up here every couple of weeks. there was a good thread in which Todras posted the professional opinion of Terry Haines on the subject. also check http://www.newcougar.org/forums and http://fordcontour.org
