The VR4

As someone who has owned 2 3S's and 4 DSMs, this argument is really stupid. It's not a DSM. End of debate.

It is the same as calling a Contour a Porsche or since Porsche designed the engine, at least in my book.

i suppose you could do this and have an argument for not knowing, that is if contours had porsche badging.

Ditto and then Dan set me straight!
Keep up the good work Dan, that car is beggin' for the Dragon, its got the goods and ready to go!!

thank you. and now i know and i won't do it again.

however in my defense, mitsubishi has been using the diamond star as it's "logo" (just like the FORD blue oval and chevy with it's "bowtie") for years. way before the 3000gt or eclipse. when a car company has been using the same badge for as long as they have there is going to be confusion with non fanboys (such as myself). i am a ford/nissan enthusiast, not a mitsubishi enthusiast. i don't understand why this has been blown way out of proportion but i will again apologize for calling an imported mitsubishi GTO twin turbo a DSM.

none the less it is still a nice car.

the Mitsubishi logo is only the Diamond part of the DSM. the Star part comes from Chryslers Penta-star logo. the name Mitsubishi was chosen to represent the logo, and actually means "three diamonds" the logo itself was based loosely on the original founders familial crest

Wow, 229K? Interior looks 75K clean. Very nice.

the leather of the drivers seat is torn up a little and needs to be replaced, but otherwise, yes the interior is in great shape for being 18 years old.

actually if i remember any of my japanese from college mitsubishi should really break down into something like three water caltrops or something to the effect, it's been a several years since that class so if i'm not entirely spot on... by the way a caltrop is a spike weapon that when dropped always has a point, pointing up. kind of like the mitsubishi logo. also a water caltrop could be a water chesnut, but i think that a chestnut is kuri, so i don't know. but i do know that mitsubishi is not the japanese word for three diamonds.

Hishi translates to water caltrop/chestnut, rhombus, and diamond. and yes, if you were to just talk about 3 diamonds you would not use mitsubishi as that is a company. but it was chosen for the company name because the parts represent the logo.

this argument is silly. you have a nice car.

i do have a question. does the VR4 have something like the super HICAS that the 240 had as an option?

I was going to say the same thing. The logo is not just the mitsubishi logo by itself. It was a conglomerate of all of them. Diamond Star...Mitsubisishis diamonds and Chrystlers star. I sort of miss my car.....well not the repairs needed to everything but the engine. LOL

yes, it has AWS which can move up to 1.5 degrees in the same direction as the front wheels at speeds above 30mph. the car also has ECS, which can put into either Tour or Sport mode. in sport mode the shocks are firmed up. in tour mode the system starts with the shocks at a softer setting and will adjust them based on throttle, braking, and steering inputs (believe there is also a G sensor somewhere). between the 2 systems this car will pull over .9Gs (between .9 and .95 depending on which magazine and model year) stock.

I saw this a while ago, and nearly laughed myself to death on the price. Then I did a NADA value....it wasn't far off. I couldn't believe it.
http://duluth.craigslist.org/ctd/2335176787.html

yeah, NADA value basically doubled on the 91s since they are now 20 years old and fall into the classic category. they shouldnt really sell for that much though as people will just buy 92s and 93s instead for much less and get the same car (with improvements if its a 93).

I typically hold onto a car for about 3 years, which conveniently puts my 93 at that 20 year old classic car mark. :D

Speaking of red, did the 3000gt's come with the porn-o red interior that my talon had? :D

some of them did, both with full leather seats or the cloth seats. :D

Nice to finally see some pics of it Dan... that is one sharp ride for as old as it is. It definitely doesn't have the look of a car with nearly 230K on the odometer :D

I always wanted one of those cars back years ago... of course back then they were way too expensive for me to afford. I guess that's why I ended up with a Slobra and a SVT Contour

On Wednesday I took about 10 minutes, some dental floss, quick detailer, clay bar, and Meguiers cleaner wax. no more badge on the bumper. the spot on the lower right of the bumper is the only issue with the body.

Looks good. I suggest a 99 rear garnish or painting the trim on the rear bumper. And an IPS Quad tip exhaust :D

I dont like the 99 garnish, and i like the black trim around the plate on the bumper. IPS exhaust is louder than I want, Im quite content with the sound and volume of my exhaust now with the downpipe, no cats, and stock catback. I will probably replace the back section with another stock setup with the working tunable exhaust though so I can put it into tour mode while on the cruising on long trips.

there's a 92 VR4 on CL in southern IL for $1500 FYI. don't know if you're wanting a parts car but i thought i would let you know.

are you planning on tinting the windows?
