"THE" Official 2010 Fall Dragon Run...Oct 7th thru 10th!

Eric, how about some current pics of the cars color, I'm sure everyone would like to see it and yes, the green wheel would be the ticket. Hopefully you find another set of those Panasports online somewhere, those are the ticket for sure:cool:

I don't mind being the vet to show the noobs around, not at all but I wanna remind you guys about that road that runs away from Bald River Falls that my step Dad and I checked out last year, its very cool because its tree lined, becomes further and further into the woods, goes through a cabin community with its own party store and begins to get more and more narrow, a fun little road for those interested. We even saw outdoor showers there, WOW!

I agree with Hectour, I too need this trip, especially with changing zip codes 9 monthes ago and not to mention the long, cold snowy winter and this hot ass summer, the cool fall season down there will be heaven on earth:cool:

Brian Urlacher number of days to go.

TOreDefine (Ken), Ken's Brother, 4moshin (Billy) and I will be heading up to Caney Creek early to make this trip longer. We will staying at the cabins Wednesday night through Saturday night. This gives us an extra day to enjoy the tail of the dragon and Cherehola Skyway. Maybe even explore Devil's Triangle.

Anybody interested in going up a day earlier?

There is a slight chance i can come. Money and the prior weekend my buddy is having his Bach Party. So IF im able to come ill just get up there and grab a hotel somewhere. It's doubt full ill be able to come though. Keepin my fingers crossed i wanna see what a Stock Lightning will do.

I may be interested. I will see what my dad thinks and what the locals are doing.

I'd love to go down there for an extra day, but with getting the job about 3 monthes ago, that's going to be tough (its already tough enough getting the days off for this years run)

I would like to let everyone know that a guy from the FitFreak site just got a cabin with us the other day, I'm shocked there's anymore left. If there is still anyone looking for a cabin or know someone, fire in a call to Dixie and remember, there are other places to stay, whether its right in the area or about 25 minutes away, we can make it work, no problem.

Fiddy Days to go!

I just found a guy in my area selling a Backyard Special S2000 seat rail. It should lower my seat about 1". I should have a better view out the windshield, and hopefully my head should be lower underneath the roll bars. This will be mod #2 that I have purchased for the S2000 in over a year of ownership. Maybe the mod bug went away? The only other thing I bought was the countersunk voodoo shift knob I got right before last year's run.

Well Randy, you takin' suggestions?

How about a Vortec? Coilovers? Rims? CF hood? Tune?

I'm sure those cars are awesome right out of the box like Chris said, but there's always something to do. Like Hectour says, mod to the rate that each one is special and grows on you and then your ready for the next one.

I sent out a mass txt to everyone today about making two groups for the run, but only for Friday, check it out. Friday we go out in 2 groups, one group goes out and goes all the way out without stopping and the other group stops and takes pics. I'm game for leading the photo group on Friday, not only because I don't mind but I'm trying to look out for the noobs as well, not to mention my car isn't exactly "speedy" on those steep hills of the Skyway. Then on Saturday we can all go flat out and do our annual photo shoot at the end of the Dragon (well, the common end)

I was also thinking about our "total" number of cars going with us and/or meeting us out there and max could be 30 and min would be 20, that's quite a bit. The high number is if all the cars go that are interested in the other forums I'm monitoring right now (xceedspeed and FitFreaks) This is yet another reason to break up the groups on Friday for sure, this way, pics can be taken by those who want to and a straight ride out can be had by others, not to mention stopping at Wheelers will be alot easier too, right!

The only engine mod I would consider doing is an engine swap. I found a place in Florida that will swap an LS2 into an S2000. This is more of a dream than anything else. Right now I am telling myself I will always keep the S2000 and eventually do this swap.

Coilovers and rims are something on my to do list. The coilovers I will wait till the stock suspension gets older. I currently have 60k on the stock struts and springs. Maybe I'll get a coilover kit at 80k miles. The wheels would have to be something lightweight and 17's. I am kinda waiting for a killer deal or I might just be fine painting the stock wheels. Wheels will wait until after the suspension is changed.

The stock hood is pretty light, but I have considered a carbon fiber hood and wider carbon fiber front fenders, but that would be after the wheels. The carbon fiber hoods I have seen (including super expensive JDM ones don't fit very well. There is a how to on s2ki.com that allows you to vent the hood. One of the vents would fall right on top of the comptech air box. I could use the vent as a source of fresh air for the intake. I haven't worked up the courage to cut up my hood just yet. The wider fenders would accommodate the larger wheels up front. Wider fenders would probably look silly with stock width wheels.

A tune doesn't make much sense. The 02-03 AP1 S2000's have a revised ECU compared to the 00-01. Tuning isn't really going to get me much HP, at least not enough to be worth it. I have considered a VAFCII or Apexi AFC-NEO. I think they look really awesome and they would allow me to change the VTEC engagement point. I can have VTEC KICKING IN YO at 5k rpm's instead of 6k rpm's.

I finished installing the new seat rail, and took the car for a test drive. The new driving position is much better. When driving the S2000, I used to feel like a big man in a little go cart. Now I feel like a big man in a big go cart!. I used to have to duck when stopped at a red light to see if it turned green. My thighs aren't as close to the steering wheel. The new seat position has made the door armrests functional! They were too low, and now they are just right. I feel like Goldilocks when she found the porridge that was just right......Before the Bears came back and scared the •••• out of her though.

I was at the Mad Dogs and Englishmen show last year (all British car show) and a guy had a Miata there (Miata's are adopted British sports cars because they copy the formula to a T) a guy there had an LS1 out of a GTO w/ mods and it dyno'd 345 hp to the wheels and got 34 mpg on the freeway. It used the GTO's 6 spd trans and the rearend came out of a Caddy CTS-V. The install was so sanitary too and the guy did all the work himself over the coarse of about 2 years IIRC. I know what your saying about the sound, hp and tq, but an S2000 with a Vortec has gotta just be flatout fast for less money, right? Not to mention all the suspension mods you'd have to do to accomadate that V8, not to mention modding the trans tunnel and rearend because a rearend that handles 159 ft/lb torque motor isn't going to get the job done for very long with that LS1.

BTW Randy the guy with the S2000 who's going with us should be coming in here anytime now and he'll post some pics from the bodyshop, his car is getting some "mods" done there and he's got progress pics to show us, let's show him a warm welcome once he shows up, his name is Ethan.

Randy, I found some mods for your car, can't MISS!

Once your done with those mods, slip into the car next to it, there will be no need for an LS1 transplant there, just a Charlie-X tune and exhaust and your all set.....noone will be able to keep up with you out there, we'll need Lo/Jack to find you!

See, check it out!

If I were to keep the stock AP1 engine (which in the long run would probably be easiest) There is a company called Mase Engineering that has made a really good turbo kit. It is a kit with absolutely everything you need to bolt on 400hp and 250tq. A guy at one of the S2000 meets I went to had one and took me for a ride. It was fast, but didn't have any low end torque. He took off and I was Meh......and then it built up boost and scared the •••• out of me. I prefer low end torque because I would rather be scared ••••less as soon as I mashed the gas pedal. Regarding etxra work on the V8 swap. It uses the stock motor mounting points, requires little modification to the engine bay, and doesn't change the factory suspension. The V8 swap also includes an adapted ford rear end to handle the extra torque. I seriously doubt I would do any of this heavy modifying. I would probably just buy a cooler car before I heavily modified the S2000. Who knows. Having a house to mod has had me pretty preoccupied anyways. I still have to finish up the garage, and I haven't even started on my man cave.

Tell the S2000 guy to hurry up and post pics. I want to see it.

there is a small performance shop in town that i stopped at today and i was talking with the owner when he noticed my Dragon shirt. told him we go down the second week of October and he said at least some of them may be interested in joining us. there is probably about 11-12 of them that love going down.
