My girlfriend was involved in an at-fault accident about a month ago. She rear-ended someone in her '01 Taurus. Well, now that it's in the shop, here's the rental she got...

have you driven it yet?

you will be pleasently surprised; they arent much in the looks department, the car drives brilliantly, the new auto trans is fantastic, the motor is quiet and has plenty of power, steering is on a dime.

But I am pissed about not hatch back option. otherwise I actually wouldn't mind the styling if it were avail as a hatch.

I have driven it, and it reminded me of the Nissan Versa rental I had. Drove great and had a fantastic automatic transmission. The downfall of both of them is that the looks severely out-weigh the pros of the car. If I'm going to buy a car, a key factor is the exterior looks. It can handle like it's on rails...but it has to look decent as well.

This is where we differ, then... I don't care if it looks like I'm riding a sled made out of Santa's crap. If it will out handle, out power, or out do the competition, I'm there.

I'll have to agree with AJ. It was a surpisingly good car when I had one as a rental for a week. It had decent power and pretty quiet. The interior was laid out well and the stereo was pretty nice because it played my mp3 cd's. It was also great on gas. I only had to fill the tank up once and I drove well over 400 miles. Only bad thing is that i had a red one and I felt like a dork driving it.

With less chrome, different headlights, and a different grill...I'd possibly change my mind.

Ford Did start making the 2 door coupe version a little differently, they made it with a gunmetal grille, used the 17 inch gunmetal euro Fsvt wheels and put the bigger motor in it

I like the way this one looks, but again, I WANT a hatch if I get a focus... But if this were my car I would car slam it to the ground, then hightower the headlights gunmetal... I think there is a lot of potential to make them look absolutely sick, and suspensions can be had cheap for these cars.

I personally like the looks of the new Focus.

I agree with both of these statements. I really think Ford has been pumping out the best-looking cars out of all the major manufacturers lately, and Ford's the only one that dares to look different. They did it with the Mustang, and now the rest of "The Big 3" is following suit. My sister has an F2, and she loves it to death. I got to drive it for a very short distance for a couple of months ago, and if the F3 drives anything like her car, it drives every bit as good and maybe a bit better than a Contour.

I've always loved the Focus, and I think they really have made a great-looking car ever since its inception in 2000:shrug:

what are you talking about "did it with the mustang" they "didn't dare to look different" with the mustang, or the GT for that matter... they took an old design that sold like crazy and remade it bigger.

Same thing with the Ford GT, took the GT40 design and modified it to make it work as a daily driver. Ford did something different then other manufacturers by reviving OLD designs that people loved, Then Dodge did the same thing with the challenger (which isn't really selling that well anyways).

aside from the mustang Ford's new cars do look quite a bit different and offer much better build quality then generations past. Because of which they are regaining their old audience, maybe not very quickly but it is happening. I can see the quality of all of their new cars, I have looked at every one and driven nearly all of them and compared to the old generations its just amazing how much has changed.

I do agree with you on the front of the Focus though, but something I learned about the car, is that its not something I loved or hated at first sight, I needed some time I let it soak in. The first time I saw the focus Hatchback I HATED it, with a passion, but the more I looked at them, then drove them, the move the styling and usability of the Focus hatchback made sense, I started to love the car about a year after it was introduced. It was the same way with this one, I hated it at first HATE HATE HATED it, then ford made some very minor changes that made me love it, so many little details in that car are just fabulous, the rear windshield is sweet looking, the build quality, the power train, the fit and Finnish on the interior, like I said in the past though what is keeping me from buying one is the fact that there isnt a hatchback model, or even a wagon for that matter. To my that eliminates the functionality of the car, it becomes just a passenger car, the trunk entry hole is so small that you cant fit anything large into the trunk, the old Hatch 5 door focus you could fold the seats down and fit a hole friggan dresser in the back of it without even removing the drawers (I know because I did it). and there still is plenty of space for other things, as well as the two front passengers.

I love the way the new focus drives, I love the refinement of the car, I love how Ford is turning it into a quality small car, but I hate how ford is trying to change the car's spirit.

funny that you don't like the headlights because to me, that's the biggest improvement they made. I hated the headlights on previous models.

yeah they were pretty boring...

Ford Designer: "what should the headlights be on the focus?"
Guy who thought up the headlights: "TRIANGLES!"

Is it another face lift of the first focus?! When I look at the lines of the windows ...
