The Ford Escort Cosworth.

I would rather have a Cossie scort than an exotic.

Kind of an old thread (but who cares, Escort Cossie, come on) but I wanted to chime in just to inform that 94-95 Escort RS Cosworth is on the import list for the US. That's not to say you wouldn't have to pay a ton of money to have it imported, and probably have to change out some parts to meet DOT specs, but it is on the import list already so there's no need to provide 3 (IIRC that's how many they want) cars for crash testing and other such nonsense.

For that price I would clone an EGT to a cossie. You can swap an AWD in from a 323 GTR or with a readily available adapter plate the near bulletproof AWD trans from a Toyota All-trac with a BPT for power. Then all you need is a 323 bumper/headlights/hood/grill/fenders, the whale-tail spoiler, cossie vents and to make the widebody panels. It has been done before.... well, I can't recall any AWD cossie clones, but, physical clones yeah, and there are a couple AWD escorts out there now.

No matter what you do to make a cossie look legal, you would never be able to register it unless it was brought over a long time ago and kept registered since being brought over.

I owned a 323GTX those cars are neat, but fragile. A GTR swap would be a pain. I sold mine, becasue as scary as it sounds my CSVT at the time was more reliable and easier to mod.

My favorite escort film is escape from stockholm with that supra :drool

hahah... and I thought I was the only one (Getaway in Stockholm 2). I have that film on my laptop and on my phone.... for when I need my turbo fix while my car is down. Hearing the impeller, BOV, and squealing tires the whole time... yummy! Sometimes when I'm working, I just have the moving playing while minimized.. just for the sounds.

I believe it.... the GTX had plenty of power to break stuff and a REALLY weak gearbox (makes the MTX75 look bulletproof). I started doing an AWD swap into one of my escorts a little over a year back using an All-track driveline, but I had to quit that project because the car just had too damn much rust and I realized that I would never fit all three kids in one of these and my ex-wife was getting to be a pain in the ass over my projects at the time....
