Hey Pat, I've been looking at building one of these myself. I actually like the GTM a lot more but you're looking at about double the cost all said and done and, the bigger issue for me, the builders are still working through a lot of F5R's bugs and there's a lot more "making things work" than "putting things together".

I ordered the Mk3 assembly manual some time ago, and that helped answer a lot of my questions, but perhaps you can help me with a couple more...

What's your opinion on the quality of the kit. I've heard little but exceptional things about F5R, so I'm not overly concerned, but it'd still something to be concerned about with that kind of money.

Have you had to do any welding? It looks like some people do and some people don't. For one, I've never attempted welding, nor would I know where to start. But I'd also prefer to just avoid purchasing the equipment for something I can't foresee a lot of use out of.

Do you think the install can be done with 1 person? Or perhaps with 1 person and an extraordinarily weak wife helping out. ;)

Those rims are sweet man! Look at that lip! I always loved those on a vintage.

The cobra intake with the matching covers look sooo pleasing.

I still think those cars are ugly as sin, but I know with how much they weigh and the engine they move like CEG'ers hearing "free beer".

F5R is really a great company, Dave Smith (Owner) is one of the nicest, most sincere guys you will ever meet. The Cobra kit they produce has allowed me to do something I always dreamed of doing. Is the kit perfect?, no it is not. Some of the little details are left up to the builder to come up with the final solution. There is an incredible community of builders that share their ideas and help answer build question at http://www.ffcobra.com/ The GTM is new product that is just beginning to really hit the market. 50k into a build will be very easy but a great concept (if you have the $$$).

I did not weld a thing on my car, but frame mods are very common. Builders do make changes to the frame. I have done 80% of this car by myself, but you will need some help from others, like putting the body on (2-3 person job). If you are interest in building a Cobra do your homework and find the company that fits your need best. There are many different companys out there offering excellent products. I have heard great things about http://www.hurricane-motorsports.com/index.jsp, a very complete kit for very reasonable $$$.
