Svt transmission

Open differential, made of questionable materials.

Repeated hard launching tends to mess up most any FWD transaxle, to be honest. Let's be clear, here.

IMHO, beat on any transmission and it will end up with problems.

The MTX-75 is a durable unit if treated correctly. It has been used from at least 95 to the present day.

It is common for the 3rd gear syncro to fail, and the diff is known to be weak.

Probably not as applicable to the MTX-75 coupled to a 2.0 litre ZETEC, you think? Mine is going "great guns" at 200+ miles on the odometer.

No. Personal success story. It's very common, probably top 3 issue when looking at used contours.

That said, a mtx-75 is a great transmission if maintained and driven correctly.

I went 60K on the original trans fluid, then have moved over to Ford Honey since, with changes at 100k, 150k and then again at 190k miles. Original clutch was repalced at 173k miles, and only then because the T/O was rattling badly. Clutch disk was still thick with friction material. And I drive her "spiritedly".
