SVT Contour V6 in a Focus! lots of ?'s

alright, well i am indeed putting an SVT Contour V6 into my focus. i was wondering what are the best exhaust headers to get (i have to get a new set, the junkyard didn't include them.) any site for performance or OE contour parts would also be a big help. if anyone is selling they're stock flywheel, or shifter from a manual rod shift (pre-98) that would be great too. sorry, im jumping thru about 3 different forums worth of topics, but this project is getting big and i cant afford for it to get out of hand, this is my daily driver we're talking about.

thanks in advance,
CrazyFocusGuy

You don't want the pre-98 rod shift trans. The later trans will not require major surgery to the body to install the shift linkage, only the Focus shifter and cable.

unfortunately its a little late.
i already have it in my possession and am going to make it work.
it may be more work, but i dont mind theres already a lot to do.

I drove my 95 again for the first time in about a month. I miss the rod shifter. :( I sware it is a short shifter compaired to the SVT>

I was reading a lil on the FF forum. you should definantly look into an SVT radiator, im not too posotive the stock focus one will keep'er cooled enough...

and as for the exhaust manifolds, i'd recommend stock SVT's because they have built in cats, and with the limited space under the much shorter zx3, you won't need any aditional cats

and look into getting a BAT inc y-pipe

anyways G/L with the swap.

Why put a 2.5L v6 when you can put a 5.0L v8 in your focus and make it RWD....

2.5L V6 FWD Focus < 5.0L V8 RWD Focus

he already has the 2.5l and is trying not to spend a lot of money, why can't you guys stop giving him other suggestions, and just help him out with what he has ? its f*cking annoying

I went through this all when there was only one V6 swap outside of the SVT engineering mule we saw back at SZ06. I offered a complete swap done for 6 grand including the engine work for a 3L (through bnmotorsports.com), but had no takers. I can shed some light on a few things for you.

Easiest engine mounts are going to be a combination of the V6 Contour mounts and some Focus pieces.

Passenger's side: You should be able to combine the passenger's side base plate (the part that connects to the Focus body) with the Contour's rubber upper piece and between head engine mount piece.

Driver's side: Technically a trans mount, but it's the same combination of the Focus body piece combined with the Contour's rubber and trans piece.

Front/Rear: I can't remember which mount needs to be fabricated. One of them bolts in, the other is close and only needs a bit of adjusting.

Engine harness and ECU: Contour stuff, pretty easy here. Just need power to the back distribution block and a few crimp ends and you can actually put everything where it belongs.

You will need a V6 Cougar gauge cluster. The 4 banger tach will be off and not read the revs correctly. Just pull the Cougar tach out and put in into the Focus cluster if you want to, or swap entire units.

Half shafts are different if I remember right. You'll need the Contour inners assembled with the Focus outers on the driver's side. The passenger's side I can't remember if the outer shaft mates up to the support shaft or not without modification.

A few other items need to be relocated, such as the coil packs, but peripherals are a cake walk once the above items are figured out. I still want a V6 Focus Sedan with a blown 4cyl 5 speed to show up so I can build a 3L sleeper. I bet it could run bottom 13's and get 30 MPG if I really tried!
