Sunroof Troubles

So I broke my sunroof glass, and purchased a new one from Ebay. When it arrived, it was totally different, apparently my sunroof was an aftermarket unit. So now I'm left with a broken frame from a sunroof and a giant hole in my roof.
I looked for a name on the sunroof and could not find one. I don't want to spend any big money on the car since it has 167k on it, and I got it for free. I'm actually thinking about just riveting a piece of sheet metal to the roof and be done with it.

Keep in mind the car is kind of a beater.
Anybody have any better ideas?
 
go to a place that does sunroofs and buy a new unit sunroofs can be done for under 300 bucks

riveted sheetmetal is going to leak like a mofo
 
my original sunroof shattered out of the blue. was weirdest thing ever! happened coming home from work.

then bought one here in Classifieds fit like a charm but i broke the glass on accident!!!!! (FYI:STILL MAD BOUT IT )


anyway, same boat. Glass shops won't do it. asked a few shops here in AZ. said was tempered and weren't able to do it.

My neighbor used a piece of plexi on the outside of the car and on the inside. They put a piece of wood that covered most of the middle on the outside and on the inside and ran lag bolts through them with wing nuts. They just torque'd em down and ran silocone around the lag bolts and plexi - worked like a charm for years - even through car washes!
 
Hey im having trouble with my sunroof and dont know whats going on? It makes the strangest noise like somethings stuck in the track. but theres nothing in there and it wont move back. but it does however go up. like the top back part. anyway any ideas?:confused:
 
Sounds like the plastic gear issue I've heard about. You may need a new one. They are not hard to replace I have taken them out for my spare parts bin.
