Hard-core CEG'er
I figured I would post a success story. I see too many threads where people never report their findings to whether their problem was fixed.
Anyways, I've been throwing the P0136 (O2 sensor malfunction, Bank 1, Sensor 2) and P0401 (EGR Flow Insufficient). I searched every thread on the P0136 and every person throwing this code had MIL eliminators. I do not. My car is bone stock. Anyways, took a gamble and bought a new Motorcraft O2 sensor. 2 weeks now and code hasn't come back.
Onto the P0401, I've read mixed reviews on this one about what can throw this code. I decided to start with the most likely and took off the throttle body to find a gold mine of carbon build up! The passage from the throttle body to the intake manifold and to the EGR was completely gunked up. I took some carb cleaner and an air compressor and cleaned it up really good. 2 weeks now and code hasn't come back.
Not only that but I'm averaging about 3-4 MPG's better now that everything is fixed. I should have done this a long time ago. I pulled over 29 MPG yesterday on the highway. Car has 224K miles.
