does anyone know if the rear strut mounts have bearings in them? I can hear a knocking from my rear passanger strut that drives me crazy. i removed the wheel and jacked the car at the knuckle (to keep the suspension under pressure)... and when a friend pressed down on the car i could hear the knocking coming from up high, where the mount is located. now i am not sure if the mount actually needs to be replaced or maybe it just got loose. what are the odds that it needs a replacement? any suggestions?

if it comes down to replacing it, i saw that advanced has monroe and kyb mounts. which are better? or should i get them from bill jenkins? thanks

the rears do not have bearings in them as they dont turn. a knocking from the top of the strut could be a bad mount or it could, if your lucky, be just a loose nut holding the mount to the strut. i had that happen once. every time i hit a bump it would knock, very similar to the sway bar knock but was coming from the top of the tower. pulled the strut and found the top nut loose. tightend it back down and all was good again.

mine knockes even when i come to a stop. if i am in a stop and go traffic, and the car goes with 5mph, you can hear it clicking when the weight of the car moves back and forth...does that sound like a loose mount? doesn't really do it on bumps that much...i think

well you can see if the nut is loose by reaching in through the trunk opening while the car is on the ground. if its loose you will probably be able to spin the nut.

yeh, i did that last week. i couldn't move it with my fingers at all. but it really has to be loose to spin the nut that easy. and i can't get a socket in there from the top...
