i have a question about strut mounts. should they be changed every time you change suspension? or do they last a really long time? my car has 137k and as i can tell from previous owners i dont think they have ever changed the suspension at all because my struts still say svt on it lol

I would go ahead and change them if you are going to replace other suspension parts and will have the strut assembly out of the car.

Your call. A good way to tell is look at how much airspace is between the strut top mounting plate and the shock tower, under the hood. I took mine apart, regreased the bearing and reassembled while shimming the airspace out with big metal washers under the top plate. You gotta look close at the mount rubber to determine if it is about to crack apart. Mine was thumping hard when hitting freeway expansion joints, now it rides fine. Main thing is to remove that looseness that allows the spring to throw the whole assembly down into a hole thus making a harder bump impact. Mounts cost roughly $50 each, my fix $5.
