Anyone else get a slightly sticky pedal the first startup of the day? It just takes a quick jab after you start the car but I dont have to like it.

I, too, would recommend cleaning the TB.. but if your TB is that dirty, you should also look in to cleanin the UIM/LIM using the how-to and photos in the duratec maintenance forum "read-first" thread.

my bet would be on the tb needing to be cleaned also. however it may not look that dirty. I noted that my SVT had a slight sticking throttle at times so I ripped down the intake and did a quick cleaning and that took care of it.

I have a sticky TB but this came after I had my TB optimized by PRT. It was spotless but started sticking right after the install. It comes and goes so it didn't bother me enough to fix it.

I noticed it happens when decelerating and downshifting off the highway. When I go to pull away from the stop light it's stuck but then it's fine from then on.

Mine wasn't dirty, but it's a 65mm custom job without a stop set, so it made a groove in it. I took it off, cleaned it, sanded and polished the inside with a dremel, and then while I was at it, I optimized it by cutting the shaft, knife edging and polishing the plate. No problems anymore.

You CAN do a butcher TB clean job that does not require removing part from car if it's a zetec. Just use acetone and wing TB wide open, get the area where butterfly contacts and the edges of butterfly. Helps to have a small hand getting back half of throttle blade. Everybody wants a totally clean one, but the most important part by far is the small aircrack where butterfly closes to body. That airleak is what the IAC is calibrated to. I notice idle improvement every time I do it.

And we're back. The sticky pedal is still bothering me. The throttle body has been cleaned and the pedal parts have been lubricated but it still needs a little nudge for that first start. I honestly dont know if its better than it used to be but its still there which kinda bothers me.

i had the same exact problem, (atleast thats what it sounds like) i got fed up with it, i just reached down there one day when the car was off obviously, and wiggled the gas pedal around like crazy. fixed it for me.

Very likely the throttle plate is binding in the bore because it is closing a little too far. You can usually overcome this by twisting the idle stop screw a tiny bit. Try 1/16th of a turn. If that doesn't do it, try another 1/16th turn. That should be a small enough change to not mess up the throttle position sensor voltage while still relieving the cold bind. Never do this without cleaning the throttle body first.

also, if it hasn't been done, try cleaning the throttle cable...this same sounding problem was happening on our altima a few yrs ago. i ended up spraying some type of cleaning solution (cant remember if it was something like berryman's). sprayed it on the end of the cable under the hood and kinda just exercised it a few times to get the cleaner distributed...

'95 V6 w/traction control, same problem. always thought it had something to do with traction control, but probably not if problem is so common.

i have a bit of slack in the cable at the throttle body.

had just spray cleand throttle body, didn't make any difference

my throttle cable goes to something shaped like an ignition coil near the RF headlight, then on around the front of the car back to the throttle body.

95 contours had a recall for sticking throttle cable. the recall replaced the whole cable. iirc the recall was because the cable would fray and then stick and therefore not allow the engine to rev down when needed.

also there should be at least one if not two adjusters on the cable.
