Hi Jim, there is so little room, it seems to be an obvious thing to try.

Don't forget part of the earlier advice. Remove the upper intake manifold. It comes off very easy, and gives you much better access.

i'm not finding the upper in the way ... it's the water pipes and aluminium plumbing blocking access to the front bolt. ... G.

Ok, it went like a dream. Without the back half of the starter on, it slipped back in much easier. I could reach the firewall side bolt from above and had better sight of the front bolt.

yup, starts up like a champ ... the starter has a kind of whistle to it now ... amazing considering it has almost done 200K miles !!
