ST220 UIM's Where are you at?

I had one a minute ago somewhere around here, but now I can't seem to find it anymore . . .

fwiw, guys, be careful because I know of at least two that are floating around that were stolen from Ford's dyno laboratory. I actually got accused of stealing one of them awhile back, but thankfully I could prove the path of ownership of mine and it kept me out of trouble.

so why not put them on. i mean obviously it's not a straight plug and play thing but why not. are the gains not that important?
I haven't because I don't have a 3L yet :nonono:
As far as gains this is the best 3L UIM from all the reading I have done, should be worth the small changes necessary to install.

Interesting, wonder if they'll pop up around here. Mine came straight from the UK.

They actually disappeared from Ford about 2-3 years ago IIRC. Stuff like that happens all the time with parts that are difficult to get.

Also, fwiw, the ST220 is among the best UIMs for a higher rpm duratec w/ oval ports. It has a runner design better suited to higher rpm, and not just in length, the taper of the runner is designed to give good flow across a wider rpm range than the older 3L oval port manifolds. The later plastic UIMs, definately the Fusion and Mazda6 ones, but perhaps as early as the 05 models are modeled internally after the ST220, and should perform similarly.

It is definately a good idea to run an ST220 manifold (or a later plastic manifold) compared to the earlier ones that typically come on the 3L's people use for thier swaps. The changeover isn't terribly difficult, but does require some creative work for cable brackets, coilpack relocation, etc. It is especially desirable for anyone wanting to run the SVT cams, or even the 04+ cams that have the same lift as the SVT cams, but not the same duration and timing. I think one of the issues people have had with SVT cammed 3Ls is using the wrong UIM and choking off the higher rpm flow, which is the reason for running the SVT cams in the first place.

I have one, but then it came with my car as standard

Also have one in my garage which will be going on eBay in the not too distant future.

so, your saying, me running an 04 taurus block with an 05 taurus UIM is as good as it gets for oval port besides a st220 setup? :P
