Speeding ticket - I want to fight it but how far do I push it?

Because I'm an idiot and I guessed as to how fast I was going, and I was wrong. I put down 30mph when it was a 25mph scool zone.

I forgot to mention earlier... I was traveling southbound where there are no signs saying that the speed limit is reduced. If you drive northbound past the school there is a sign saying "Reduce speed to 25mph when children are present."

It also really pisses me off when people say that I was driving wrecklessly while going through a school zone. I wasn't. (I was almost killed in a car accident 11 years ago. I am a very defensive driver.) I know that is a bad area and I drive by there every day to work. I was keeping pace with the traffic in front of me. There were multiple cars and busses turning into the school in a right turn lane. The driver that caused this all pulled out right in front of me with a bus blocking her view. She just went and hoped that nobody would be there. I was. :blackeye:

Also, what is this about the airbags only deploying above 25mph? There is no way that I was going over 10mph when I hit the other car. The fact that the corner of his bumper went through the center the center of my bumper/radiator (and the airbag sensor) may have had something to do with it.


Either way, I have decided to go and plead not guilty. I have no idea of my exact speed and I don't see how they can fine me because of it. I was guessing. :nonono:

What was the time of the accident? after school hours. If soo the school speed adjustment does not hold water. The reduced speed is only upheld during school hours.

Also show a video camera of your trip with no signs showing of reduced speed and bring it to court. Take pictures of the area around you. etc. That is the best you can do.
 
Unfortunately it was 20mins before school started. That's why there where soo many parent's dropping off their kids. (That combined with the extremely cold weather. Nobody was walking to school.)

I'm not going to push the lack of signs. The judge could spin that and slap me with a 15mph over ticket. (In WI, if a speed limit sign isn't posted in a school zone, it is 15mph.)

The air bag deployment hasn't really have anything to do with speed and just the angle to hit an object.

Good luck in court. Hope everything works out with this and the supercharger.
 
just an FYI my friend is an insurance agent, and i aske dhim because I got a ticket that was 0 points on my drivers record (impeding traffic) and he said that 0 points still gives you points on your insurance it is 2 points to insurance.

so look at your insurance probably going up anyways (this may be different in other states but just thought I would share)
