Someone wants to race me..... Saturn Ion Redline

hmm, well a few weeks or so ago i raced an SS cobalt. he rolled up next to me (rev rev) the blower was winding and winding. my 2000 CSVT was res removed, exhust, cold air, headers, and short shifter thats IT !! we took off and i just dipped on him. i mean he was ripping on the car.. SOOO idk about them SS cobalts. my guess is that he didnt know how to drive lol.. BUt racing an SRT4 is another story ;(
I heard that those damn SRT4s are pretty quick!!! I'll avoid them in all of my vehicles. (Except the Tacoma....see my signature)

After I get my XCAL, we'll do 'er up!

Do you run 87 pump gas in your 3L?? Also, the oil cap on "my" 3L said "5W20". Do you run 5W20?

For a while I was using the Synthetic 5W20 from Ford, but I now use 5W30 Royal Purple (if I could find a 5W20 Royal Purple I would use it). As for gas I'm crazy I use 94 octane in my SVT and amde sure it was tuned for minimum 91 octane. You going to tune the car yourself?

Aaron, tuning cars is something I have always wanted to do. Finally it looks like I have a good reason to get into it. Right now I am also in the process of building an H23 engine for my Prelude (currently has an F22 engine). I want to put a turbo on the H23 engine when I do the swap this winter....so it looks like I'll be getting into it eventually anyways. Do you know if the XCAL work for tuning other cars, or is it specifically for Ford, or Contours?

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread...is there anyway someone can move these posts over to a more appropriate thread (or start a new one) so we don't piss off the OPer?

Oh that's awesome, I can't wait to see that Prelude. As for the XCal they can only be used on one car at a time and I'm not sure if you can get them for Hondas. But if it were me I would look into tuning with the Hondata computer or AEM, Greddy etc. Sorry for the hijack.

Ion Redlines are ok...my friend has one. Its quick at the most. He beat a new GTI that was revoed with an intake by 1 length. Factory he was pushing 13lbs. All i know is my automatic SHO only lost to him by a length. So it cant be more than a 15sec car in the 1/4...oh and when you put an intake on a Redline it makes the most annoying sound ever. Plus it sounds like a honda

oh and i almost forgot. Its plastic and ugly as hell...

I can second that. There is a local kid with a modded Redline and you can hear it coming from blocks away. He hangs out with a kid who drives a modded PT Turbo and you can also hear him coming. Its so annoying.

Its almost as bad as nails on a chalkboard....wait....its worse

I like random discussion in threads. At least you guys are still commenting on the Ions and their power. It's all good, jack on jackers!

One reason the Redline was so popular was the price. The first year you could get the employee pricing. For about $18k you got the supercharger, heavy duty trans, beefed up suspension, LSD, bigger wheels and some other things. I know they dropped the LSD the second year as standard equipment the second year.

Here is the article where the Ion beats out the Cobalt SS..http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...t-third_place:_2007_mazdaspeed__3+page-4.html

Cobalt SS (Supercharged) 0-60 6.1 sec 1/4 mile 14.6 @ 99
Ion Redline (Supercharged) 0-60 6.0 sec 1/4 mile 14.6 @ 98

Cobalt SS (Turbocharged) 0-60 5.7 sec 1/4 mile 14.2 @ 102

Unless the person cant drive at all, this is a sub 15 second 1/4 mile car..

I'll trust what the writers at Motortrend and Caranddriver say, more than when somebody says they beat x car by a length and lost to b car by a length so he will run h amount of time....

If your that worried about it, take your cars to a track. It's safe, its fun, and you can see a whole lot of other cool/neat cars.

that actually was at a track lol. Epping NH. I said he must of ran a 15.0 cause i dont remember what he ran but ik from watching him in front of me running a 15.5 that it was about that. Plus you gotta remember that the magazine drivers a professionals. Ive been told im good but i know im not a pro or close to it . So i would be very suprised to see those numbers in the real world. Plus neither one of us got traction off the line. And my friends GTO only ran a 14.5 it should run a 13.75 according to motor trend. Yet my Element runs a 16.3 and M/T says a 17.0 so it all depends. I believe the numbers i see at the track.

Thats not a bad time for an Element...
