This guy has a 2006 Saturn Ion Redline.

Engine: 4-Cyl. Supercharged
Horsepower: 205@ 5600

The 2.4-liter inline-four engine produces a stout 170 horsepower with 162 lb-ft of torque. This strong powerplant is flanked by a base 2.2-liter, 140-hp I-4 and the supercharged 2.0-liter, 205-hp I-4 from the Red Line cars. Performance further benefits from a fortified five-speed manual transmission, and aggressive 4.05:1 axle ratio on the Red Line. The resultant acceleration from this raucous combination sees 0-60 mph runs blaze by in a claimed 6.2 seconds.

We were at "THE TRACK"and I know that I could run lean at the top and have the new 3L go boom but here is the story anyway.

-He yells "hey, lets go man".....
-I said " your car looks alright, what is it?"
-"Ion Redline" he yells back.
-I asked "what are all those fancy gauges for on your pillar?"
-He replied "blah, blah, boost"
-I was like "what the heck is the boost gauge for, a turbo?"
-"No" he said "it's for the supercharger"
-He asks "what are all your gauges for?"
-I said "everything that is important" :D

OOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........

Off we go, needless to say he got to experience my exhaust rasp first hand and I wasn't even getting on it .

I love making dumb people feel more dumb..... thanks for reading.

well sounds like he was stock good for you glad you didn't hurt anything. Way to show the guy who (bought) a fast car... what a (built) fast car can do. :)

I drug the :censored::censored::censored::censored: out of one that had an intake and exhaust. Not all that quick w/out more boost. and a good driver.

Redlines are stupid. I would get a cobalt SS stage 2 over the saturn. I rode in a saturn with a pulley, bigger injectors, intake and still was slower than a stage 1 SS. Im glad you showed him what a 3L sounds like. Go check some saturn forums for his side of the story..."blah blah blah I wasnt even on it"

I figured it might be close being charged and all, but they must have the boost pretty low from the factory, and man are those god awful ugly :blackeye:. I really can't believe those sold for that much. I knew I wasn't going to stomp the gas pedal down but when I was toasting him at 3/4 throttle I was all warm inside . It still cracks me up :D.

I think my buddys old cobalt SS was 12lbs stock.

Oddly someone I know as well has an ION readline.... he's wanted to race.. but I usually decline because I don't want to risk some dumb race and have some lucky po po give me a ticket... I also was hesitant b/c I wasn't sure how the race would go... 133K stock clutch, intake and res delete... plus a big phat ass of weight difference... what's the power to weight on our cars vs the ions? hell I got a ticket for just driving... then again.. it was a mustang conv.... and I was late.... :D

stock for stock you will get beat by it. I ran 0.3 faster in my wifes at the track than my old silver SVT I also know of 2 guys here that had sg2 redlines and they freaking scream. IDK where all the hate on them is coming from but I would put myself in another one of them in a heartbeat if I was given the choice even with a 3l car as an option. dont know for sure or not but I am willing to bet the redline is lighter than the ss as well.

I know on the top end... I can stay pretty good with a SS if I'm rolling ahead... but they slowly start to catch inch by inch... not terribly fast, I'm sure if it was a dead start I'd have been toast... but that's another story...

You're stupid.

The redline and the SS/SC are identical cars, except the Saturn is lighter cause it's plastic.

I guess so. Went to a 1/8th mile track and redlines were getting stomped on by SSs. Excuse my ignorance, I guess you cant base things off what you see. My brother had a SS sg2 and he ran against a Redline sg2 and it wasnt even worth it. Since they are the same cars I havent seen a redline beat a SS. Basing my info off observations. Maybe bad drivers flock to the redline.

I'm surprised to find out they are basically the same car. I've heard decent reviews of the ion redline and nothing but phenomenal reviews on the Cobalt SS. What's the deal with that? Personally, I like the quad coupe deal, but the ion definitely has a few bad angles.

The new 2008-2009 Cobalt SS's are the ones getting the good reviews. They have the 2.0L Turbo engine with 260 HP.

The older 05-07 Cobalt SS/ Ion Redline's had the 2.0L Supercharged engine with 205 HP.

The Redline weighs 46 pounds lighter than the Cobalt (2945 vs 2991)

I thought I read somewhere (I think it was caranddriver) that in a comparison of about 10 cars the Redline beat out the Cobalt SS.

hmm, well a few weeks or so ago i raced an SS cobalt. he rolled up next to me (rev rev) the blower was winding and winding. my 2000 CSVT was res removed, exhust, cold air, headers, and short shifter thats IT !! we took off and i just dipped on him. i mean he was ripping on the car.. SOOO idk about them SS cobalts. my guess is that he didnt know how to drive lol.. BUt racing an SRT4 is another story ;(
