so aftet all the problems within the last 48 hours (like not shifting, clutch not working, etc) my car is really acting rediculus. I was driving with 60mph, when my speedo arrow just went to 0. I though my car stalled (like it did 6 times within the past 2 days), but no...it engine was running fine. So now my speedometer doesn't work. just like that. out of no where...what the hell? when I accelerate, the arrow goes up to about 20mph and then goes down to 0 again? has anyone had this problem before?

i just searched about it. it says it can mess up the atx tranny. can it mess up the mtx?? no right? and because i cant really down shift well, can that sensor be the reason for that?

The VSS problem should not affect the MTX. If you can't down shift, it is not because of the VSS.

Tony, thanks for the quick reply. I will be getting this fixed soon.

I was talking with another CEGer and we both agreed that it seems like you need be get paid for answering almost all the posts in here...you are like 411

I had the VSS go out on my 97 autotragic Zetec. The speedo would not work, the O/D light was flashing and the car would not shift out of first. I decided to manually shift it from 1st, into second, then into drive. Once it was in drive, it shifted by itself again, even when coming to complete stops, albeit a bit harsh. if i shut off the car, i had to to "teach the tranny how to shift again, 1st 2nd, drive, etc.. Once the vss was replaced, all is fine again

I do.....................get rewarded (in a different kinda way ;) )

Tony, is this what the vss looks like for thre 98 csvt? i took my tranny out last night and didn't see a fast way to pull it out. how do i remove it? i though the sensor was not supposed to have wires coming out of it, but that the wiring harness was plugging directly into the sensor.

With the exception of the early 1995 models, all VSSs do have wires going to the PCM.

I can tell if that is the MTX VSS. Someone else who have worked on a MTX VSS will have to confirm it (Tony-CSVT1214 should be able to confirm that).
