Considering that you live in IL, where it snows, then you probally should have got Stainless steel. The aluminized steel will get eaten apart by road salt and snow. It will be good for a few years, but won't last near as long as Stainless steel exhaust! But it is normal for even Stainless steel to get surface rust and look a little rusty, I know because that is what mine looks like under the car!

Just remember that stainless steel is also susceptible to salt corrosion. Water not much of an issue but salt is bad.
That's why Brass is so usefull on sea-going vessels. Although certain types of stainless are still usefull at sea, all submerged items are bronze/brass a lot of times.

well crap... umm so a few years you think? crap!!!!!!!!! and i just quit smoking! now i need one. i guess im going to be spending alot of time at the car wash this winter

I would think the life of the exhaust would be greater than the life of how long your going to own the car...unless you plan on owning it forever. Your fine IMHO. Ive got aluminized on my catback.

do ya? nice. i cant see me having the car more than like 5 years or so

sand it with some 400 grit or so.. then apply high temp paint to it.. It shouldnt rust then.. i did that with my no-cat pipe..

I put a custom cat back on my truck and it was aluminized and it only lasted about 3 years. I cleaned my truck literally like every other day too. Good luck on the exhaust. I'll only buy stainless for now.
