Alright, I know the sleeperz has made his own intake setup, and you can call this what you will. I have named it the "Sleeper Intake". First I'm going to name the benefits and downside to this upgrade.
I have had a CAI mounted on my car for a couple of years as well as a Sleeper Z intake. The Sleeper Z intake was a nice improvement, but I noticed a lack of mid range power (From 3,000 to 5,000 rpm) I realize that everyone's experience is differant as not every car is the exact same.
Now when I had the CAI, I had no low end torque as in takeoff, but I had a load of high end power. also, I hated how the rubber coupler that came with it didn't fit the throttle body.
I made this with junkyard parts and one trip to the autoparts store seeing as how I didn't exactly have the OEM intake anymore. I do have a lot of low end torque and quite a bit of high end power with this as well. Also, it's cheaper.
What you need:
1. OEM intake
2. If you have a pre 98, go to your local salvage yard and get a intake tube from a 98^.
3.go to the autozone with $10.00 and but a flexible intake tube (looks a bit like a dryer hose)
now bear with me as all of these pics were taken with a cell phone.
step 1: Using the 3"flexible tubing as a stencil, cut a circle out of the Air Box where the air normally flows in as well as cutting out the lip around it.
Step 2: Make a block off plate. You can use pretty much any material, I work around prosthetics, so I used a scrap peice of plastic called Vivac that we use for test sockets. and you can paint this to match the box if you want.
Step 3:Using epoxy and RTV, put the block off plate on the air box.
Step 4: I don't have a picture of this, but you can see in the finished pics, put the flexible hose through the fender. It's a bit difficult, but the fuse box will go back into place.
End result
