Sick of cars getting more complicated

I agree with the OP to an extent, but are points and carbs uncomplicated?
I think so. IMHO, back in "those days," car maintenance was taken a bit more seriously than it is today. People planned on keeping their cars longer and were more in the habit of doing the minor tuneup every 15K miles and the major every 30K. While you are in there doing that, you had a better chance of catching something about to go wrong than you do these days where most people don't look under the hood for 100K miles except to do oil/filter changes. With all the additional equipment under the hood in today's cars, it's much easier to break or disturb something if you don't know what you are doing which can cause more problems. A minor tuneup was plugs, points and condenser and a major was a minor plus carb overhaul and fuel/air filter. Obviously on something like a GT 390/428 Mustang, getting to those plugs was a chore but at least the distributor was in front! :laugh:
