I am finishing up a 3L and new tranny install. My shift cables will NOT come over to where they need to be, the white one (bottom) is about 2'' away and the black (top) is about 3'' away. I have pressed the orange button is as well, no idea what the problem is. I my resort to taking it to a shop since it shouldnt take long to hook them up. Any ideas? I am located in OH if anyone is close by.

Was gonna say the same thing. You sure its in neutral? Also your gonna be in trouble now that you pressed the orange buttons with out them hooked up. Make sure to take some extra time after the install to adjust that shifter. As its sure to be off now.

Yes it is in neutral; why am i going to have trouble since i pressed the orange buttons?

The cables may have gotten shoved back in through the firewall... Try pulling them out from under the car... They are not going to magically shrink overnight so just take a closer look... Do you have the bracket on the tranny in the correct position? Also is there a chance that you routed the cables differently?

Regarding the orange buttons, pull the boot off the shifter and get a friend to sit in the car and keep the shifter in the middle of both axes (side-to-side and front-to-back), you on the other end have to make sure that you have put the tranny in neutral and put the cables on the shift tower while your friend is making sure he is holding the shifter inside the car in the same spot and press in the orange tabs

Hope it makes sense
