my contour has a real bad hesitation, almost like a misfire. i just replaced the plugs and it is still the same. while i was doing this i looked at the control box that is bolted on the valve cover on the radiator side. it has an electrical plug and a cable coming from it going to the LIM. if there was a kink in that cable, would it cause it hesitate and surge if it was stuck in one position?

it would make the car bog down below ~3500 rpm if it made the secondaries stay open or you would loose power up top if they where stuck closed.

I suggest checking your plug wires for carbon tracking as it is often good to replace plugs and wires if you are having a missfire situation.

you pretty much nailed it with the bogging down ~3500rpm, so they are stuck open. how much does the control box run?

well I would confirm that they are not moving, if you look under the tb you can see the linkage and at idle the bar and arms should be to the right, when you rev the engine up over 4k rpm they will move to the left.

new units run $175 or so from the dealer

well..a kink in an electrical cable doesn't make too much difference unless it breakes the cable inside.

The "cable" he is referring to isn't an electrical one.. its a steel one, like a bicycle brake line.
