Ok so I wanna get a ROP yet I dont wanna pay a ton for one. I saw in Wal-Mart the other day that they have some for like twenty bucks. Are therse complete crap, or are they somewhat decent.

I guess I just wasnt happy with the way my car looked after hand waxing it.

The only thing they are really good for is applying/removing wax. They just don't have the power to break down cleaners/polishes in order to remove swirls and defects. The PC goes for less than $100 from time to time at Lowes and other online merchants. That's the machine you should get!

I bought a ROP by Turtle Wax. I got it at the local Ace Hardware store for around $35, I think. It came with the polisher (no cord, you have to use your own extension) three or four bonnets in different materials, and a really handy case for all the accoutrements. It's easy to use, just one speed, and the head is padded with about 3" of foam so you won't dent anything by accident if you slip a little. The main reason I got mine is that I have a little trouble with my right shoulder every now and again, and it happens most often the day after a wax. The polisher lets me do the big spots quickly, and then do the detail stuff by hand.

I really like the speed it has for taking care of large areas, but I would suggest getting a smallish diameter head if you plan on really getting detailed with it. Mine is 10" and it's too big to use on little spots - the A and B pillars, the piece of the roof in front of the sunroof, the little crease at the base of the windows, the area around the rear license plate, etc are all impossible to get with it. I don't know if a smaller diameter head would work better or not, but it seems like it would. If I had to buy one again I'd get one with a 4" head, or maybe 6" at the outside.

Good luck!

Actually Lowes isn't carrying them anymore according to the nice gentleman at the Lowes in Carol Stream, Ill. And please be careful what you buy, some buffers are not meant for application. I have a cordless buffer that I got from Walmart for $35 that I like. But it really depends on what you're using it for. A cheap polisher will probably be good for upkeep, but as mentioned by Dr. Cross it's not really gonna do too much for any defects/swirls you have.

To be honest, I really don't think you're gonna be much better than going at it by hand.....But if you wanna look cool and take a chance....So be it
