So Roger and I got down to business earlier and took care of Lindsey's brakes (Roger did most of the work, I'm a n00b at brakes  ). We had been previously baffled by a clunking/ticking sound coming from the brakes. As it turns out, as soon as we managed to get the drum off (with much struggling), the pin holding the front part of the shoe had broken off  . The "clunking" sound we were hearing was the back of the lug stud on the hub getting caught on the bar that joins the two halves of the shoe! It didn't get caught too badly if the hub was spinning "forward," but I am still dumbfounded how the whole entire assembly didn't rip apart while the car had been driven in reverse. The hub couldn't even be turned by hand "backwards" because the stud got COMPLETELY caught on the bar  . But regardless, the brakes work excellent, now. I can end this pointless thread.

Thanks Rog :)

Thanks Ian, Next time see if we can pick a warmer day though. LOL
I felt sorry for poor Lindsey, you dragged here down so she could stand out in the cold watching us work on the brakes. You should have let her stay where it was nice and warm.

Haha yeah. But we went straight to the mall afterwards, so that's why she came with. Maybe she was expecting a heated garage...:o

... a heated garage...:o

oh man that is nice. my father just got a propane heater and we crancked that up this morning, after about 30 minute to an hour it was up near 60 degrees in the garage as we where replacing the control arms on my mothers contour ...

That reminds me... Hey Roger, let me know when I can get that heater your friend has for me... Thanks!

And glad you guys fixed those brakes...

and IAN, when you left me that message about me being "half-right", I guess you forgot what spring i was talking about... On a lot of drum brakes, there is a spring that holds tension on those pins that hold the drum shoes in place... I had said that that spring (if there was one) had broken off, and let the shoe hit the drum/hub...

No biggie, just wanted to clear that up :)

No big deal, I just thought you were talking about one of the other three springs. You're a smart guy ;).

And yesterday was also a good day because I think I found a leak in the intake after the MAF. I have an easy solution to this. Focus intake for me, perfectly working stock intake for Lindsey.

Roger IS the man. now when i listen to my ipod in the car it is not interrupted by an annoying sound. i didn't mind standing there watching you guys, i just felt bad that i couldn't help (cause i know nothing about cars and lack muscles). however next time a warmer day would be nicer, or maybe if i wear socks.

P.S. thank you Ian for posting the update because no one would have understood what i was talking about. it would just include a lot of "that thingy" "a piece of something" "that big round rubber thing that is full of air" and ""

Don't worry about sounding "dumb" when it comes to cars Linds. Betcha I'm no better. I know about as much as a brick . You just need to come up with a bunch of clever words to describe what you're talking about!

Iif you make a post in Troubleshooting, you MUST describe it like that! Ray and Tony2005 need a good laugh once in a while.

Just call everything the "flux capacitor". You'll sound smart all day long.

:laugh:haha. yeaa we fixed my flux capacitor with a flux capacitor but first we had to take the flux capacitor to take out the flux capacitors from the flux capacitor...:help:. they should really have an English to car online translator.

Hey! You shut your mouth!

I get made fun of by everyone. It's like high school all over again :blackeye:
