I need to replace the passenger side outer CV boot on my '96 Mercury Mystique with a 2.5 Duratec.
I read the thread http://www.contour.org/ceg-vb/showthread.php?35486-32mm-socket . Dismantling the RH half-shaft is not easy.
1-Dorman has a Uni-Fit stretchable boot (614-001) which allows installation with a stretcher tool ("stretch boot" on youtube). Using this tool allows installation of the boot without dismantling the complete half-shaft. Is that a recommended repair? Note: this is NOT a Quick CV Boot where you stick two halves.
2-Assuming a full half-shaft dismantling, on reassembly, do I really need to replace the circlip?
P.S. A thank you to those who contributed How-To documents in the past; I have been using them for the last five years. Special thanks to Big Jim(water pump) and Ray (knuckle).
