I am considering buying an SVT that unfortunately needs a new clutch . Anyhow, if I do get it I will also be removing the struts and installing headers at the same time.

Would dropping the tranny/subframe be easier than pulling the whole engine?

if i was doing headers too i would pull the motor and trans out the top

dropping the subframe will allow you to pull the mtx and it will make headers alot easier to install. no need to pull the engine also unless you want to. but then it makes the headers really easy to install also ....maybe flip a coin to decide ...

Thanks for the replies. My biggest reason for not wanting to pull the engine is that I dont want to deal with the AC stuff. Recharging the AC is a minimum $100 in my area.

no need. Unbolt the compressor and leave it attached to all the lines and sit it on the subframe. If you have the radiator out, there is plenty of space to leave it sit. Otherwise you can use zip ties to hold it in place while pulling the motor.

I have done Contour clutch replacements both ways. My preference? Definitely pull the engine/transmission out the top together! Dropping the transmission out from below by itself was a pain -- getting it back up and mounted was a struggle I wish I could forget!

I found it relatively easy to pull the engine/transmission together for the clutch work. That way there's plenty of room to work and you'll have a super-easy time installing the headers with the engine out.

Picked out a clutch yet? My recommendation is to stick as close to stock as possible. The OEM SVT Clutch/Flywheel/Pressure Plate/Slave Cylinder are a pretty robust combination. Aftermarket 'performance' clutch kits are hit-and-miss.

As Rara mentioned, there's no need to uncork the A/C system -- tie it out of the way and it'll be fine.
