removing donut gasket from y-pipe Q

Is this welded on or just so nasty and crusty that it seems to be welded on? I want to replace one on a Y Pipe so maintaining the integrity of the original is not an issue. Can I just crack and pry at it?

Also, any suggestions on cleaning up the pipe itself? I've read oven cleaner and a wool pad.

The donut is just pressed on by hand and it has 3 small dots of something kinda sticky that holds it on. Just pry it off. So to answer your question, no it is not welded. I think the new donut is about $10 from Ford, and cheaper from Bill J.
