I'm looking at getting this Valet 561R Remote Start/Keyless Entry kit for my car from Circuit City and have a friend install it for me but he says I can probably do it myself in a couple of hours.

Question, will it work for my car without needing any additional parts that I may not know of?

My car is a 1999 Ford Contour SE/4DR with 2.0 Zetec engine.

I've seen comments where people say my car doesn't come with PATS or initially a remote kit.

Advice?

It probably does have Pats. What does your key look like? If it has a large thick (1/4") head then it does have pats, and you will need something like the Directed XK04 or 555PW or 555FW. These will take some programming (instructions in the box) and unlike any other option, you will not loose any key, as others require you to place a key in a box under the dash.

As far as the remote start goes, you will have to cut the ignition wires @ the steering column, so if you don't feel comfortable doing it, have it installed by a QUALITY shop, as I have seen some s:censored::censored:t from shops like the "home of the $1a dash fire."

If you need the wiring color/locations just PM and I'll get it off my Directed account for you.

4 cyl tours don't have PATS.

Not to scare you or anything but it's best if you have a certified tech install it for you IF your friend does not have that much experience...it's easy to screw something up.

Educate yourself good way before you guys dig into doing this and you'll be golden.

I still have a heck of a time with mine, it's been quite a bit and still can't get the damn thing to operate properly..(I also don't have too much time)

mind PMing me that to me also? Just to see if I got the wrong darn diagram as 'tiques and tour differ, even '98 to '99

I'd appreciate it.

Oops, missed the whole 4cyl thing :crazy:

I'll get that wire chart for you after I get off work later today. If you haven't heard from me by tomorrow, just PM me to remind me.

Gee, I'm not inclined to go tearing into the steering wheel column so perhaps I'm better off leaving it to someone who knows their stuff.

The only reason I'm considering investing in an alarm is because my radio got stolen last week and I'm loathe to go buying a new one without having an alarm to go with it.

Am not looking forward to the investment. As my car is a 1999, and it's almost getting to be a decade old, the investment may not be worth it unless I get a remote starter to go with it and the cold New England winter will make that pay its worth in gold. :-D

If I can somehow gorilla-glue and secure the radio so that even if they break in, they can't get the radio out, I'll be fine with that. :-D
