Rear strut mounts?

How can I tell if my rear strut mounts need to be replaced? Just got through with a new clutch install and was going to have the car lined up, but I noticed that the from mounts are shot. Gap between the top of the strut tower and the rubber on the top of the mount. You can't see the top of the rears, so how can I tell if I should replace them before I have it lined up. Kinda short on money, but the car can sit for another week or so until I get the rear strut mounts as well if I need them. The car is a 2000 SVT with 165,000 or so on it. All help is appreciated.

The rears dont really wear out the rubber just breaks. So I guess they get weak before they break but I dont know how you could tell. If they are not broken you dont need to replace them unless you want to. Also the rear doesnt have any adjustments for alignment so you can do them whenever

Thanks for the help. Always thought anytime you had any strut out, that it would need to be lined back up. Guess you learn something new everyday. Thanks again for the help.

I picked up all four mounts from car-part.com a couple weeks ago for less than $65 IIRC, and made a world of a difference in all the old noises and popping. Definitely worth the time and minimal price.

There is adjustment for the rear alignment but that only needs aligned if you drop the subframe or install a new subframe. And only toe can be adjusted not camber. That is a great price for the mounts from the above mentioned site.

If a strut mount has more than about 60,000 miles on it, I'd replace it on general principle ESPECIALLY if I had the strut out anyway. Just silly not to.
