Well it does have a temperature range designed in. ATXs usually run somewhere around 180 degrees or hotter, so a gauge or sender that is intended for use on an ATX might not even read the much lower MTX temps. I'd be surprised if the gear oil ever exceeded even 110 degrees. You may find that the gauge won't read anything.
Just so you understand, no manual transmission has ever failed due to heat! Why not hook your temp sensor up to a coolant hose or something, and use the gauge to measure water temperature. That would be a lot more functional and a lot less ricey.
