Question on sub/amp setup

Could I simply match the LxWxH and make a new box and expect the sound to be close? Obviously I'm no audiophile, so close is all I need.
Thanks,

There's almost no way that enclosure is the ideal size for that sub. Is it ported?
What I would do first is figure out exactly what sub you have, then go to pioneer's site and get all the data you can on the sub.
Once you have that you can plug the t/s numbers into a box builder program (winISD). It's possible you'll be able to build a smaller enclosure and get better performance from the sub as a result. Even if the sub does require volume close to that of the box it's in now you can adjust the dimensions to make more efficient use of the space you have available. I have a big ported enclosure for a 12" and still have more than enough room for golf clubs.

Ported enclosures don't "make the most" at one frequency unless you design them for SPL competition and a one note wonder is the goal.
A good sub in a properly tuned ported enclosure will produce a flat response curve, get LOW, and play noticably louder than sealed at the same power.
The only real drawbacks are they're larger, and take more time to design and build.
exactly.

That's why prefabs are pretty much useless. most are tuned high (40hz+) so they will be loud, boomy, and ultimately sound like crap. 40hz+ is fine if you're doing competitions where you just want loud. If you wants anything musical you usually tune pretty low, I ran 2 12" Infinity 1230w off 950rms in a 4.5cuft box and i tuned it to 29hz, The sound quality was even better than a sealed and it hit the low's like crazy.

Most people that come through (where I work) don't know jack about SQ and just want to be the loudest on the block so they can brag about how they had this and that BEFORE it was stolen...
