Got a question.

On my mom's car, which I have "repossessed" 8) I notice that when I have the car in N or P it has a rev limit of 3500RPM.

Now, I come fromthe escort side of ford, and people have told me on the 97^ escorts if the ebrake was pulled slightly to illuminate the brake light that it removes the limiter in the ECU.

I am wondering if this causes the motor to free up a few more ponies in the top end on the contour, or should i just find a superchip for the motor?

chips are old school. look up SCT or look at the tuning forum.

who knows if it will cause damage or not reving an atx in neutral, but is there really a need anyway?

the neutral bomb is whats going to kill it, and i believe it is a 4k limiter. At least on my late 99.

There's no need to rev the engine any higher in P or N. Anyways they put that on the car because they dont want the engine or tranny to get hurt. Revving any engine in P or N is extremely hard on it. Harder than actually driving the vehicle.

Well i dont n drop cars, cause i have seen first hand what happens in customers cars when they do such. Only reason why i was asking is i didnt know if the limiter still comes into play while driving.

And i should look for SCT tuners?

why would you have a rev limiter set so low while driving when the reline is so much higher

no there isn't a 4k rpm rev limiter while in drive.

Well like i said in prior threads this car isnt really my strong point.
Maybe it could have been a stupid Ford thing.

And do they make SCT tuners for the Zetec?
I cant seem to find a thread pertaining to it for the Zetec
but loads of info for the duratec.

in the case of the Zetec your best bet would be finding a tuner who has done lots of Foci, although any SCT tuner should be able to tune the car.

all right so best bet is to find a tuner that will work on foci

Now i haveanother problem.
the MAF meter is clip style, what i am wondering is if i was to get a explorer sensor, can i swap modules out and put the modified MAF unit(explorer MAF housing w/contour electronics) in place so i can use a universal MAF Adapter with a cone filter for more flow thru the sensor
