Quaife install.

You WILL need new differential bearings. The old ones are pressed onto the stock diff, and you'll damage them if you try to remove them.

The Quaife also, I have heard, cannot use the stock speedometer gear; it needs a Zetec speedo gear to work. The Torsen uses the regular Duratec gear, no issues.

not exactly. i slapped a quaife onto my stock mtx75 without issues.

Replacing the bearing and races will require special tools. Best to leave it to the pros. Not necessarily a need to replace the syncros just because, especialy since theres chance when you change you will have to go to the non-double blocker style. Check for wear than determine.

i plan on putting the zetec final drive in mine however ive read about some 2 or 3 bolt something or other and it is making me wonder. in all the trans i have removed i have not found a 2 or 3 bolt anything different

Are the differentials different from an auto 2.5 to a manual 2.5? We are interested in building up an auto '97 and don't want to buy a used trans to have it blow up later anyway. Any info is appreciated, thanks!

Building up? the auto trans is underpowered for a stock 2.5 FYI. To answer your question no they are not the same.
