Here is teh story....reecently i ahd my car repainted.

The day i picked up my vehicle, the battery light was on and the fog lights were blown. I took my vehicle back inside and they informed me that the fuse was blown. Battery was running 11.6 without fuse, then once they added the fuse the battery went to 14.1. They put in a new fuse and said it's cause the alternator was bad:crazy:. After talking to the guy for 5 mins i realized he is an absolute moron, he was trying to tell me how the engine works:rolleyes:. He told me that the traction control with the alternator was causing the problem making the fuse blow. After he was banging on the bottom of the car trying to make the fog lights turn on:mad:. I gave him an ear full and demanded my car back.

I took it home looking around at the fog lights, everthing was exactly as i connected them. But everytime i turn them on...the fuse blows. When i disconnected my fog light wires.....cut them off, the car ran perfect and when i turned on the fog light switch, the fog light bulb came on and the fuse never blew. Once the fog lights are connected the fuse blows instantly:mad:

i drove out to my apartment only to see my cd player flashing at me....headlights cutting in and out and all of a sudden my gauge cluster starts to light up...battery light, airbag, check engine light, mph stopped working etc etc.

The car was shutting down litteraly. So after driving it back to my place 1 mile away. I parked it....checking the fuse, it was blown again. So i left it there waiting till the following morning to deal with it.

Next morning....the Battery was dead:blackeye: I found someone to give me a jump....while listening to a former gm employee telling me why i shouldn't have bought a ford:laugh:
Irony huh:laugh:

Well after he jumped me i let the car idle for 5 mins, then i went to move my car to the next lane to load some things up...just about 10 feet away.
I parked it and let it idle while i loaded somethings in. I get into my car and went to take off...i saw no rpms...no mphs lights are all on....so i gave it some gas and as soon as i did, the car bogged and went to die. So i let off the gas and the car went back to idling fine.....lights still on.

Now first thing comes to mind...alternator.....but what is causing the fuse to blow? When the fuse is blown the car produces 11.5-7 volts so of course the car can hardly drive. But i can't keep the car from blowing the damn fuse.

I got a ride out to the family's home tonight for thanks giving while leaving my car at my apartment to deal with tomorrow.

If anyone else has any ideas as to what they could have done to the car while they were painting it to make it blow fuses please tell me.
Do you think the disconnected a ground strap? If they did, which one, the main one from the batter is connected.

my gauge cluster starts to light up...battery light, airbag, check engine light, mph stopped working etc etc.

This happened because the battery was almost completely discharged.

The battery was discharged because the alternator was not charging the battery.

The alternator was not charging the battery because Fuse 5 was blown.

Fuse 5 was blown because you had a in the circuit.

I suggest you check the fog lamps and the connectors to them to make sure the wires are not causing the short. They may have messed up the connectors (or fog lamps) when they repainted the car.

Well i went to get the car...i cut off my fog lights, replaced the fuse for the 5th time. Jumped the car...and then i was running. I let it sit for 10 mins. And drove it 25 miles back to my parents house..full heated garage with air tools:cool:

Battery checked out okay while i placed it on the charger for the night but light went green after 5 mins...alternator checked out okay too.

I rewired the fog lights myself again....nope the fuse blew right when i turned on my fog lights...once i disconected the foglights and i turned the knob again the fog light indicator light came on.So i don't know where the ground goes for the fog lights etc. I know it attaches itself to the main wiring when i followed it.

It has a shorting out somewhere for sure. Tony do you know where i should look? It's kinda late but i think i might ground the fog lights to the car itself and see if that works.:help:

No easy solution here. You just have to follow where the fog light wiring is going from the foglamps to the fuse or to the grounds.

Or go without the foglamps (at least temporarily). Then you won't have to deal with Fuse 5 blowing.
