Price for 2000 Contour

Hi All,

My daughter is looking into buying a 2000 Contour. The asking price is $5500, and I do not know if it is SVT or not. ConsumerGuide.com says the price ranges from $2400-3000 for an average condition car and $4000-4600 for an average condition SVT model (http://auto.consumerguide.com/Auto/Used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/2159/act/usedcarreviewprices/). Are these prices reasonable, depending, of course, on the overal condition of the vehicle, or should we be going for significant discounts on the asking price? I have yet to do a VIN check or even see the car, so this is a very preliminary query.

Yeah, only way I would pay 5500 for a 2000 is if it were an SVT (REMEMBER TO TELL HER 93 OCTANE GAS!) with under 80K miles. Or an SE sport with every option and under 60K miles.

It is actually 91 octane for the SVT.

Also plug in the numbers in www.edmunds.com for a more accurate and detailed used car price.

My bad... IM used to seeing 93 octane lately when I fill up at the gas stations. Guess the number just stuck in my head.

Yes, I see that more and more nowadays. What "regular" cars are using those "wallet busters" nowadays?

Well im around detroit now, and I actually see a lot of higher performance cars around, surprisingly enough.
 
It depends. I just paid $5300.00 for a pristine '98 SE Sport 6 cylinder 5 speed with 24,000 miles and I'm pretty happy.
 
It might be a tad high, but its a Florida car, has never seen a winter and has no rust - even the bottom of the car is bright shiny metal.

It doesn't really have a lot of options. It has cloth upholstery, no moon roof, 15" alloys, stock sound system

From what I've seen, this might be the lowest mileage Contour in America - with the exception of an SVT that with 9000 miles that went for $13,000 recently on eBay. Oh, and I think a fellow CEGer has a couple of SVT's with mileage under 20K.

Anyway, back to the topic - unless the car is an SVT or a pristine SE Sport with a clean CarFax, a 6 cylinder and mileage under 40K, I wouldn't pay a dime more than $4000.00 tops. If its a 4 cylinder, I wouldn't pay more than $3000.00.

NADA value is 5600 for high retail Considering it has 24K miles on it I wouldn't be surprised if whole car is pretty much perfect.
 
I over paid for my SVT $7000 dollars for a 2000 with 52k I actually talked him down from 7500. This was of course before I found out the value of these cars, KBB lied to me.
 
Don't forget, the KBB value reflects the average ASKING price for a vehicle. When was the last time you heard of anyone paying a dealer sticker price?

You did over pay a bit. But if your happy with the car that is all that matters. Enjoy it!
 
There was that guy last year that bought a CSVT with only 60 miles on it. It was kept in storage since new. He shortly dissappeared from CEG though.
