Hello All

For anyone that has swapped to a pre 98 Contour (or SE) trunk on the post 98 Contour, did you notice that the post 98 tailight connectors does fit the pre 98 taillights? This is the situation I have, so I had to leave the original tails in while I either cut off and replace the connectors, or get different year pre 98 taillights. I have had one response saying that the connectors were the same.

Any thoughts? I'd prefer not to cut and paste a set of pre 98 tailight connectors.

I was worried about this aswell, I cut off the connectors when I got the tail lights. I will see if the post 98 connectors will work with my pre98 tails, maybe the part numbers are different for certain years. Ill try to do it monday or tuesday.gl till then.

the later 98's and up have the different style. mine is an earlier 98 which is the same as the pre98's.

This is what I suspected, thanks for the confirmation. Since the 1997 model year was cut short, the early 98 cars had the same front control arms to the 1997 (and before). I should have expected this with the wiring harness too. Damn.

FYI: E0 SVT's came with dual lit vanity mirrors, E1 SVT's came with only passenger side lit. Probably same reason, wiring harness.

this is news to me because when i had my 2000 CSVT i put on pre-98 taillight that i cleared and i didn't have to swap the connectors. The sockets themselves were different between the pre-98 and the post-98 but i didn't have a problem as far as just putting the factory socket into the pre-98 taillight.

Super glue? Theres no way they would lock in otherwise.

I did things just the opposite way in putting a post 98 on a pre 98, but I did see the difference with the connectors. My pre 98 sockets fit right in the 98 tail lights. The connectors were different, but the whole socket worked just fine. If for some reason the post 98's don't fit yours then the only option is to cut and splice. There are some wiring changes that are only early 98, and that could be what you are dealing with. I'll have to check my 99 and see if the sockets fit my old 95 tails. You got me wondering now.

i was gonna say i can try my 2000 sockets in my 97 tails tonight if this isnt sorted out by then.

I can send you the conectors out of my 96 Chris if you want.

That would be great. Let me see what Aliasjerk can come up with first. I had asked him from a couple of days ago to look for a couple of connectors for me. I'll take you up on your offer if he is not able to source me a couple.

Thanks.
