Playing catch-up

yeah, we thought that, too...because he's also been vomitting a couple of times a week, we're trying a new brand of food that has a higher % of protein...so far, he's been able to keep everything down. We've read some bad things about dry cat food being too high in carbohydrates which leads to pancreatic shut-down and diabetes...all we've fed him is IAMS dry food, so we're a little concerned.

yeah the vet we adopted our cat from was a holistic vet. they said that dry food isn't good, to much grain I think it was. anyway for a cat wet food is very important. I always mix alittle dry food with wet food. the vet also doesn't like the normal pet food you get because it has animal byproducts in it. I don't know about it but in the wild they would have eaten all of that anyway so I don't see the issue. I know our cat picked up a 1 lb after we got her and the vet wasn't happy. but she wouldn't eat all the special food they gave us. plus being out of a vet office would have to increase appitite also. Anyway we where leaving dry food out but she eats it on the spot so we don't do that anymore and she is maintaining a good weight.

but bottom line I feed and treat my cat as my parents do. And that way one lived to 21 and the other close to 18 ....

yeah, we started the soft food this weekend...so far, he likes this all-natural brand we found at the pet store. Main thing is, at least he's not vomitting after eating now..

well, Chris was calling us all boring awhile back  had to prove her wrong :)

She'd have to be right for us to prove her wrong.

I'm always right. :D
Hey, at least we aren't boring anymore.

My cat would only eat the .99 Friskies crap. I got her some good stuff but she refused to eat it. Stupid cat.
I noticed the same thing with my cat, as she got older she lost weight. The vet said she was healthy though.
I had to have her put to sleep when she was 16.

just got back...his blood sugar was fine, so it's not diabetes (or if you watched the Man Show, livebetes...lol)

The doctor thinks it's probably an over-active thyroid, might be like what Kim's cat has, which should be managed through medications. Interestingly, the doctor described it to be something similar to a person developing a goiter...we'll know for sure once we get the blood test results back :)

found out today that his thyroid is fine, blood work showed nothing wrong

we're going to give it a couple more weeks on the new food since he seems to be eating more and if he doesn't seem to be getting better, go back for xrays to look for a tumor  poor guy...
