So I got some new stuff, and did some things that weren't linked to maintenance, on the SVT. Fixing stuff gets boring, so I took a break.
I took some pictures along the way, because really... We all love pics.
A local guy came by today and swapped my OEM for his CF OEM. I was freaking out when I put the thing on, because it wouldn't latch. But then I smacked my forehead and remembered the latch can adjust up and down. So I fixed that. The hood also has a few little spots that need attention. So eventually I am going to sand it down and re-clear coat it. But for now I just used some fine grit rubbing compound then a coat of cleaner wax. It brought it back to life for sure.
So now that I have the CF hood, people always say "get hood pins! so the hood doesn't fly up!" I say to them "you are stupid and hood pins are stupid-er."
So I made up the little concoction you see below. It is one of my old guitar strings, with a round terminal that attaches to the bolt point of the latch. Then I got the smallest C-clip I had, and attached the other end to that. So now, I can just clip that onto the hoods latch and bingo bango, no stupid hood pins. Hopefully if the hood ever does want to take flight, that will hold it back. It should, guitar strings are mighty strong.
So now that I had that all taken care of, I was looking at the grill and thought "Man, I hate chrome." So I yanked that off and painted it. I didn't do the whole acid bath thing, because I hate chemicals. So I just used my wheel and took the chrome off. Then did 2 coats of primer, 3 coats of black, and 6 coats of clear. In 2-3 days I will wet sand the clear down, and re-apply 2 more coats.
So after that, I was looking at the ford emblem and thought "man, I hate blue." So I re-did that with some real carbon that I had laying around from a previous project. I am thinking I will make a SVT logo for the center. I have some aluminum vinyl, so tomorrow I will fire up the plotter and see how that looks over the CF. I also took a scotchbrite pad and made the chrome-ness of the emblem look like brushed aluminum.. I really hate chrome..
All in under 6 hours time..
ANYWAY... Enough rambling.. Onto the pictures..
Yes I know the headlight is fogged.... Again, previous owner..
I am going to use that one as my test subject. For my black housing/HID project.
